Screened-Auger Groundwater Sampling
Multi-Media Straddle Sampling System
24" O.D. Dual Auger Abrasion Drilling
CME-95

The Multi-Media Straddle Sampling System was designed and developed by DRAGIN Drilling to enable us to collect quality soil and water samples from a single borehole.

The system utilizes the screened-auger groundwater sampling technique, which has become an indispensable tool in the industry for obtaining groundwater contaminant profiles, in conjunction with the standard ASTM split-spoon soil sampling technique.

This revolutionary sampling approach, combined with DRAGIN Drilling's unique high-torque auger rigs, guarantees you the most cost effective and efficient method for obtaining a complete subsurface profile.

Soil Sampling
The Multi-Media Straddle Sampling System is a modified
conventional auger system. Soil samples are able to be
collected at any given depth using a conventional ASTM
sampling technique.

Water Sampling
The Multi-Media Straddle Sampling System utilizes a
dual-packer pump system in conjunction with a screened
auger. This system enables us to collect discrete water
samples equivalent to those collected using the
standard screened-auger sampling method.

System Advantages
The collection of soil and water samples from a single borehole inherently
saves time and money. There are several other advantages to this system versus other systems currently being used to collect multi-media samples.

First, by using the "tried-and-true" screened-auger water sampling method, we are able to collect the same efficient, quality, discrete samples from a designated interval as has been used and accepted by the EPA for the past ten years.

Sampling and purge times will not be increased by the use of this new system and remain drastically less than other methods. Purge times, in particular, will be lower due to lesser amounts of water required to be added during drilling and soil sampling activities for borehole stabilization.

Secondly, the Multi-Media Straddle Sampling System collects the water sample behind (above) the soil sample. This advantage will allow the client to view the soil stratigraphy prior to collecting the water sample, and, if desired, make a decision to eliminate certain water sampling intervals, in-turn saving sampling costs.

Lastly, an expansion tube inserted into the lead auger will act as a stabilizer inside the augers, enabling the well to be better centered within the borehole.
